The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has vowed that he would not pay any form of ransom to secure the release of his Trade and Investment Commissioner, Mr Federal Otokito, who was kidnapped a few days ago. Aliko Dangote, chairman of Dangote Group and Africa’s richest person, says the refinery will begin processing crude by the third quarter of 2022. According to Bloomberg, the business mogul said mechanical work on the refinery is done, and “hopefully before the end of the third quarter we should be in the market”. He said this during a briefing at the plant site in Lagos. Dangote said the plant would start with a processing capacity of 540,000 barrels per day. “Full production can start maybe, by the end of the year or beginning of 2023,” he said. Burkina Faso President Roch Kabore has been detained at a military camp by mutinying soldiers following heavy gunfire around his residence on Sunday night in the capital Ouagadougou. According to Reuters, two security sources and a West African diplomat said this on Monday. The mutinous soldiers are yet to issue a statement on the incident. This comes a day after reports of gunfire erupting late on Sunday around the president’s home, hours after soldiers seized control of a military base in Ouagadougou. Nine oil thieves and their vessel caught with N200million worth of stolen crude oil in 2015 are going to walk free after paying N2,000 fine each. They were in November 2021, remanded in prison by the Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, for them to pay the paltry fine and meet other conditions to be totally free. A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday directed the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Ministry Of Petroleum Resources and National Petroleum Investment & Management Respondent Services (NAPIMS) from allocating crude oil to Addax Oil Exploration PLC It held that the crude is from that explored /produced from OMLS 123, 124, 126 and 137 as stipulated in the Production Sharing Contract (PSC) of 1998 between the Addax and NNPC. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is quizzing Ahmed Kuru, managing director of the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), over allegations related to sale of assets. A top official at the anti-graft agency confirmed the development to TheCable on Wednesday.
