The Council of Legal Education has released an updated list of universities approved to admit students into the Bachelor of Laws programme in Nigeria, warning that only institutions accredited by the Council are authorised to run LL.B programmes. The Federal High Court in Abuja has voided the 2027 election timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Justice Mohammed Umar, in a judgment delivered on a suit brought by Youth Party, held that INEC’s action imposed restrictive timeframes on political parties for the conduct of primaries and other pre-election activities contrary to the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026. The Nigerian Bar Association has published the Directions of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee on its website, while cautioning lawyers and members of the public that all published directions remain subject to appeal under the Legal Practitioners Act. In a caveat accompanying the publication, the NBA stated that where an appeal has been filed against any direction of the LPDC, such appeal operates as a stay of execution pending the determination of the appeal by the Supreme Court of Nigeria. An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Wednesday sentenced a school proprietor in Lagos, Benson Arinze, to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting a six-year-old pupil. Justice Abiola Soladoye held that the prosecution successfully proved the one-count charge of sexual assault by penetration against Arinze. Two Abuja security Guards, James Sule, 30 and Adamu Yau, 25 have been jailed for life over serial rape of a girl for six years. The convicts who began to rape the girl when she was six were handed life imprisonment, without the option of fine, by Justice S.M.
