The House of Representatives yesterday mandated its Committees on Justice, Public Petition and Police to investigate the involvement of the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubarkar Malami, SAN, and the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali on their alleged involvement in the police invasion of Magodo estate in Lagos State. The Committees are to ascertain the alleged attempt to destabilize the peace of Lagos State and scuttle the ongoing settlement process and enforce an illegality. The senate has deleted clause 87 of the electoral act amendment bill which provides for a compulsory direct primary poll for all political parties in the country. The change was made to the legislation after Abdullahi Yahaya, senate leader, sponsored a motion in the upper legislative chamber on Wednesday. Compulsory direct primaries for political parties and electronic transmission of election results are among the amendments proposed by the national assembly. While rejecting the bill, President Muhammadu Buhari said adopting compulsory direct primaries “violates the spirit of democracy”. An Umuahia High Court has ordered the Federal Government and the Nigeria Army to pay N1billion to the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for invading his house in September 2017. The federal government and the Army were also ordered to apologize to Kanu for the violation of his Fundamental Rights. Alberta Justice Minister Kaycee Madu was fined for distracted driving and called Edmonton’s police chief to discuss the ticket, CBC News has learned. The federal government has filed a fresh charge bordering on alleged terrorism against Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to the IPOB leader, confirmed the development to TheCable on Monday. The UK government on Monday announced a freeze of the BBC licence fee, arguing a new funding model was needed to ease cost of living pressures and reflect a transformed media landscape.
