A Lagos State High Court in Ikoyi will on February 12 resume hearing of a suit by aggrieved investors seeking to recover about N11,795,090,000 from bank accounts linked to a couple, Bamise and Elizabeth Ajetunmobi and their two alleged firms. The firms are Imagine Global Holding Company Limited and Imagine Global Solutions Limited. According to the plaintiffs’ motion, the N11.795 billion is the outstanding investments and return on investments accruing to them from the defendants. The Supreme Court has reversed its earlier decision which dismissed an appeal filed by Guaranty Trust Bank against a N2.4bn judgment given in favour of Innoson Motors Nigeria Limited by the Court of Appeal in Ibadan, Oyo State. A judgment delivered on Friday by a five-member panel led by Justice Olukayode Ariwoola unanimously held that the Supreme Court erred when, in a ruling on February 27, 2019, it erroneously dismissed the appeal marked: SC/694/2014 filed by GTB. Liberian Vice-President Jewel Taylor has commended Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi, for surpassing 35 percent affirmative action for women in his administration. Nigeria is a signatory to the 35 percent affirmative action agreement of 1995, Beijing, China. Apart from appointing a number of female aides, all the LGA deputy chairpersons are women. The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has urged President Muhammadu Buhari government to widely publish a copy of the agreement signed with the microblogging platform, Twitter. In the letter dated January 15, 2022, the group urged Buhari to direct Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, to clarify the manner and scope in which the agreement with Twitter will be enforced including whether the agreement incorporates respect for human rights, consistent with the Nigerian constitution 1999 (as amended) and international obligations. Attahiru Jega, a former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says more problems may be created if the direct primary mode is made compulsory for political parties. Speaking at a town hall meeting on the electoral bill organised by Yiaga Africa on Sunday, Jega said it is not clear if any political party in the country has a comprehensive membership register. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba on Friday decorated newly promoted Senior Officers with their new ranks. Among those decorated as Commissioners of Police (CPs) were husband and wife, Kehinde and Yetunde Longe. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has recommended two new drugs — baricitinib and sotrovimab — for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. In a statement on Thursday, the global health body said the recommendation is based on new evidence from seven trials involving over 4,000 patients with severe, non-severe, and critical COVID-19 infections. According to the WHO, baricitinib — also used to treat rheumatoid arthritis — is strongly recommended for patients with severe or critical COVID-19 in combination with corticosteroids. The Republican National Committee (RNC) is threatening to boycott the debates unless the body that organizes them changes its rules. US presidential and vice presidential debates have been sponsored for the past three decades by the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD).
