A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikorodu has resolved a land dispute between a couple and the two founders of God’s Glory Evangelical Mission (Palace of Breakthrough) over ownership of land used by the church in Ikorodu, Lagos. Justice Adeniyi Pokanu held that the land belonged to the couple, Mr. James Adebayo Adenuga and Mrs. Omobolanle Esther Adenuga, who are claimants in suit IKD/10257LMW/2021. For the second time in two years, the Federal Government has increased tertiary education tax from 2.5 percent to 3 percent. It was increased from 2 percent in the Finance Act 2021 to 2.5 percent and has gone up to 3 percent in the backdated 2023 Finance Act. President Bola Tinubu has assented to the electricity bill, which authorizes states, companies and individuals to generate, transmit and distribute electricity. The new electricity law repeals the Electric Power Sector Reform Act (EPSRA) which was signed by President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2005. The EPSRA (2005) provided the legal, regulatory and governance frameworks underpinning the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI). The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, wielded the big stick against a legal practitioner, Mr. Chuks Nwachukwu, who is ordered to pay a fine of N20 million for filing a frivolous suit to stop the inauguration of President Bola Tinubu on May 29. The National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Abuja division, has restrained the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) from embarking on strike over the removal of petrol subsidy. The federal government had asked the court for an interim injunction preventing the labour unions from proceeding on the strike scheduled to begin on Wednesday. Delivering the ruling on Monday, Olufunke Anuwe, the presiding judge, said the unions should halt the planned strike pending the hearing and determination of the ex parte motion filed by the federal government. A Federal High Court, Abuja on Monday, awarded a N10 million fine against Mr Festus Keyamo, the immediate-past Minister of State for Labour and Employment, for filing a frivolous suit against Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s presidential candidate in the Feb. 25 election. Justice James Omotosho, in a ruling, awarded a N5 million fine each in favour of Abubakar and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), making a N10 million against Keyamo.
