The Supreme Court, on Friday, debunked the allegation that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Olukayode Ariwoola, sneaked out of the country and met the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, in London. Following the conviction of Ike Ekweremadu, former deputy senate president, for organ trafficking in the United Kingdom, a debate has ensued regarding the sentence he will be handed. His wife, Beatrice, and Obinna Obeta, a doctor involved in the case, were also found guilty when the verdict was delivered on Thursday. The court of appeal sitting in Abuja has reinstated Ademola Adeleke as the governor of Osun state. Delivering judgment in the appeal filed by Adeleke on Friday, a three-member panel of justices held that the election tribunal erred when it ruled that the 1st and 2nd respondents (Gboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress) proved their allegation of over-voting. According to the panel of judges which issued its verdict on Friday, Adeleke is the duly elected governor of the state. Hoodlums suspected to be political thugs have set ablaze a state High Court in Owutu-Edda, Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi. Mrs Oluchi Uduma, the Registrar of the court confirmed the incident to newsmen in Owutu-Edda on Tuesday. She said that the hoodlums invaded the court on Tuesday and set the building ablaze. Uduma explained that the court building, documents and other valuables were completely burnt. The Chairman of Afikpo South Local Government Area, Mr Chima Nkama also confirmed the incident, adding that the matter was reported to the police.

President Muhammadu Buhari has signed 16 constitutional amendment bills into law. Among the bills is the one which mandates the President-elect and governors-elect to submit the names of ministers or commissioners to the Senate and State House of Assembly within 60 days of taking the oath of office. The bills signed into law include financial independence for state houses of assemblies and state judiciary; bills seeking to remove railway, prison, electricity from the exclusive legislative list to the concurrent list, among others. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission on Friday lauded the robust and detailed decision of the coroner in the case of the Inquest into the death of Peju Ugboma who underwent a procedure at Premier Medical Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
