A gang of kidnappers has reportedly taken over a police checkpoint in Edo State. The State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, disclosed the incident on Monday in Benin, during a security briefing with all security chiefs in the State. He further disclosed that the daring kidnappers also attacked some policemen on patrol at the unnamed checkpoint. “We heard some kidnappers took over a checkpoint and attacked some policemen on patrol, but none lost their lives in the incident and this has prompted the government to commence a total revamp of the vigilante structure,” Obaseki said. The Ekiti State Government has confirmed the abduction of students, teachers, and a driver in the Emure-Ekiti area of the state. The state government confirmed the abduction in a statement on Tuesday. It also vowed to ensure the victims are rescued. Gunmen had abducted six pupils and three teachers of a private school and their bus driver while they were returning from Eporo-Ekiti on Monday night. More residents affected by the recent explosion that rocked the Bodija area of Ibadan in Oyo State have recounted their ordeals. PUNCH Online reports that five people died, 77 sustained varying degrees of injury and 58 houses were damaged during the explosion that rocked Dejo Oyelese street. A 25-year woman (name withheld) on Wednesday told an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court how a bishop, Feyi Daniels, allegedly raped her while praying. The alleged rape occurred at the cleric’s residence in Lekki, Lagos State. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the bishop is standing trial on an amended three-count charge bordering on rape and sexual assault, to which he pleaded not guilty. An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced a Lagos bishop, Feyi Daniels, to life imprisonment for raping his 23-year-old assistant (name withheld). Justice Rahman Oshodi also sentenced Daniels, the Bishop of I Reign Christian Ministry, Lagos, to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a 19-year-old member of the church (count three of the four-count charge). UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called on African leaders to root out terrorism and violent extremism on the continent. Guterres made the call at a 2-day top-level meeting of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact at UN headquarters in New York. A Magistrate court sitting in Katsina has remanded in prison custody, the chairman of Batagarawa Local Government in Katsina state, Mr Bala Garba Tsanni over alleged murder, abduction and culpable homicide. The chairman and 11 others were arraigned before the court under sections 59, 249 and 189 of the Katsina penal code law. They were accused of the alleged murder of the village head of Dabaibayawa, Late Alhaji Dikko Ahmed.
