A 37-year-old security guard at Prestige International College, Nurudeen Shehu, has committed suicide over news of his ex-wife’s remarriage in Kano. The state Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, said it occurred inside one of the college’s classrooms on Sunday. Governor Nasir Idris has approved the payment of N27,500,000 as tuition and registration fees of 38 Kebbi State indigenes at the law school. This was contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Junaidu Bello Marshal and released to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Monday. President Bola Tinubu has announced a shake-up in the oil sector to ensure transparency amid concerns about declining oil revenue and opaque practices within the NNPC. The President has directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to take over responsibility for crude oil sales from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). A gang of kidnappers has reportedly taken over a police checkpoint in Edo State. The State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, disclosed the incident on Monday in Benin, during a security briefing with all security chiefs in the State. The Ekiti State Government has confirmed the abduction of students, teachers, and a driver in the Emure-Ekiti area of the state. The state government confirmed the abduction in a statement on Tuesday. It also vowed to ensure the victims are rescued. A 25-year woman (name withheld) on Wednesday told an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court how a bishop, Feyi Daniels, allegedly raped her while praying. The alleged rape occurred at the cleric’s residence in Lekki, Lagos State. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the bishop is standing trial on an amended three-count charge bordering on rape and sexual assault, to which he pleaded not guilty. An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced a Lagos bishop, Feyi Daniels, to life imprisonment for raping his 23-year-old assistant (name withheld). Justice Rahman Oshodi also sentenced Daniels, the Bishop of I Reign Christian Ministry, Lagos, to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a 19-year-old member of the church (count three of the four-count charge). UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called on African leaders to root out terrorism and violent extremism on the continent. Guterres made the call at a 2-day top-level meeting of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact at UN headquarters in New York. The meeting, which started on Wednesday will address rising violence and the spread of terrorist networks.
