Anambra State Government has declared November 16 public holiday to honour their first President of Nigeria, late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe. Governor Willie Obiano said it will be right for President Muhammadu Buhari to do the same. The late Owelle of Onitsha, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, was born in Zungeru, Niger State, on November 16, 1904. A Federal High Court, Lagos on Monday fixed December 1, 2021 to deliver its ruling on a contempt proceedings filed by Rite Foods against the Managing Director of Nigerian Bottling Company(NBC), Mathieu Seguin over alleged trademark infringement. Earlier, NBC had filed an application before the court seeking to dismiss the contempt application against Seguin. The trial judge, Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa fixed December 1, 2021 for ruling on the application after listening to the argument and submissions of counsel to parties in the suit. The Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has said that an out-of-court settlement and political solution cannot be ruled out to resolve the ongoing legal tussle between the Federal Inland Revenue Service and some state governments over the collection of Value Added Tax. Two suspected traffic robbers have been lynched by an angry mob around First Rainbow, on the Apapa/Mile 2 Road, Lagos State. The PUNCH gathered that the men were suspected to be members of a syndicate terrorising residents and carrying out traffic robberies in the area. While armed with different weapons, the gang reportedly dispossessed commuters of their valuables, especially those going to work early in the morning. Zainab Ahmed, minister of finance, budget and national planning, says the federal government is considering political paths to resolve the ongoing value-added tax (VAT) tussle. Ahmed said this during an interview on Channels Television on Friday. In the last few months, the FIRS and some state governments engaged in a legal tussle over the jurisdiction of VAT collection.
