There have been a legal brawl between some Local government Areas of Nigeria against the Federal government simply for the determination of who have the power to operate marriage registries, conduct marriages and issue marriage certificates. Statutorily, the Local governments are the ones empowered to conduct marriages and issue marriage certificates, for this reason, the LGAs have insisted that their powers to register marriages which is statutorily provided are being usurped by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Interior. The Lagos government has released the report of the state’s judicial panel on police brutality. On October 19, 2020, as part of recommendations put forward during the #EndSARS protests, the Lagos government inaugurated the judicial panel to investigate petitions on police brutality in the state. The British High Commission says it will “pause making decisions” on visitor visa applications from all red list countries, including Nigeria. The decision was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the commission.
