A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has held that the Independent Corrupt Practice Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) cannot place a Post No Debit (PND) on a bank account without a valid court order. Justice Peter Lifu made the order while delivering judgment in a suit filed by a firm, Efoba Construction and Engineering Services Limited against the ICPC and Zenith Bank Plc. A federal high court in Abuja has declared that the direct deduction of funds from the federation account to fund the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is illegal. In a judgment delivered on Wednesday, Ahmed Mohammed, the presiding judge, held that the provisions of section 4(1)(a) (b) of the Police Trust Fund Act 2019, requiring the deduction of 0.05 percent of any funds in the federation account and 0.005 percent of the net profit of companies operating in Nigeria to fund the police are unconstitutional. The Federal Government says it is set to amend its relevant statutes and code to enforce the operational conditions of Twitter in Nigeria on other social media platforms. Armed operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided and held a vigil at the Federal High Court in Lagos in a bid to arrest a suspect holed up on the court premises, PREMIUM TIMES reports.
