A 25-year woman (name withheld) on Wednesday told an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court how a bishop, Feyi Daniels, allegedly raped her while praying. The alleged rape occurred at the cleric’s residence in Lekki, Lagos State. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the bishop is standing trial on an amended three-count charge bordering on rape and sexual assault, to which he pleaded not guilty. An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced a Lagos bishop, Feyi Daniels, to life imprisonment for raping his 23-year-old assistant (name withheld). Justice Rahman Oshodi also sentenced Daniels, the Bishop of I Reign Christian Ministry, Lagos, to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a 19-year-old member of the church (count three of the four-count charge). The judge held that the cleric should spend the rest of his life at the Kirikiri custodial facility in Lagos. Oshodi held that the prosecution established the ingredients of the two offences. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called on African leaders to root out terrorism and violent extremism on the continent. Guterres made the call at a 2-day top-level meeting of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact at UN headquarters in New York. The meeting, which started on Wednesday will address rising violence and the spread of terrorist networks. According to Guterres, in just a matter of years, Africa has become the “global epicentre of terrorism”, with groups such as Da’esh, Al-Qaida and their affiliates exploiting local conflicts and fragilities to serve their own ends. A Magistrate court sitting in Katsina has remanded in prison custody, the chairman of Batagarawa Local Government in Katsina state, Mr Bala Garba Tsanni over alleged murder, abduction and culpable homicide. The chairman and 11 others were arraigned before the court under sections 59, 249 and 189 of the Katsina penal code law. They were accused of the alleged murder of the village head of Dabaibayawa, Late Alhaji Dikko Ahmed. The police in Lagos have arrested Onyeabuchi, the son of actor John ‘Mr Ibu’ Okafor, and Jasmine Okekeagwu, his adopted daughter, over an alleged N55 million fraud. The Body of Benchers Nigeria has constituted an Extra-Ordinary Committee on Judicial Matters to examine issues relating to conflicting judgments from superior courts and media trial of court cases.
