The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the ban against the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, also known as Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) from impounding, confiscating or imposing fine on motorists. In the latest verdict, a three-member panel of justices on Thursday held that appeal brought by the Minister of FCT through his counsel, Joseph Daudu (SAN) was devoid of any merit, and that the operations were illegal. The Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) has imposed a two-year suspension on Chijioke Ugochukwu Onyeneke for “infamous conduct in the course of performing his duties as a legal practitioner.” Onyeneke’s suspension follows an application filed in February 2021 by lawyer Ayodele Kusamotu. The LPDC is the statutory body responsible for handling disciplinary cases involving Nigerian lawyers. President Bola Tinubu has nominated the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence. The Ondo State Government on Monday said it had created a special offences court to prosecute electricity thieves or anybody who commits power-related offences across the state. The state Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Johnson Alabi, disclosed this in his office in Akure, the state capital on Monday..
