Ondo killing: Governor Rotimi Akeredolu cancels Democracy Day celebration

Governor of Ondo, Rotimi Akeredolu, canceled this year’s celebration of Democracy Day in the state in honor of those killed in the terrorist attack on worshipers at St. Francis, Owo, Sunday.Akeredolu published a series of tweets on his Twitter account on Saturday, saying the cancellation was to allow the people of Ondo to mourn the deceased.

The state government on Wednesday released a new death toll from a terrorist attack on church worshipers. State Health Commissioner
Dr Banji Ajaka said in a statement that as of midnight Tuesday, the death toll stood at 127 while 40 were confirmed dead.

The Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Ondo, Jude Arogundade, earlier said the church had recorded 38 deaths.Situation Update As of 12:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 6, 22 at St. Louis, Owo, 39 people were involved and 13 people died (confirmed ). At the Federal Medical Center Owo, the total number of people involved was 84 and the number of bodies in the FMC morgue was 25 ; Ajaka said in a statement.
But Akeredolu said Saturday that the state would suspend the June 12 celebration in honor of the victims.

In honor of the victims of the terrorist attack at St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, the Ondo State government canceled the June 12 celebration this year.
The cancellation is intended to allow residents of Ondo state to mourn their loved ones who lost their lives in the horrific attack, Akeredolu posted on Twitter Saturday.
