Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Ikoyi, have launched an investigation into a suspected fake lawyer, John Anoruo, over alleged possession of a forged Nigerian Bar Association stamp.
Anoruo, who runs a legal and educational consultancy in Ikorodu, Lagos, was arrested on Monday, April 20, 2026.
The case arose after he submitted a petition dated September 22, 2025, to the EFCC on behalf of his clients against the management of Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited.
However, investigations showed that both the petition and a subsequent Letter of Withdrawal dated March 5, 2026, carried a forged NBA stamp, which Anoruo admitted to obtaining from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos.
During questioning, the 55-year-old stated that he earned a Law degree in 2018 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka through evening classes but did not attend the Nigerian Law School.
The EFCC disclosed that he will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
