Court of Appeal President Approves Nationwide Justice Posting, Effective April 22; Justices Assume Duties By May 5

The President of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Monica B. Dongban-Mensem, CFR, JP, has approved a fresh posting of Honourable Justices across the various Divisions of the Court, effective 22nd April 2025.

According to an internal circular, Justices have been posted to key divisions, including Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Benin, Jos, Ibadan, Ilorin, Owerri, Yola, Ekiti, Akure, Makurdi, Asaba, Maiduguri, Kano, Awka, and Gombe. The Honourable President noted that the newly posted Justices are to assume their duties by 5th May 2025.

In Lagos Division, Hon. Justice Y. Nimpar will serve as Presiding Justice, with Justices J. E. Ekanem, F. A. Ojo, D. Z. Senchi, P. A. Bassi, N. U. Okaisabor, P. T. Kwahar, Abdulazeez M. Anka, and U. Onwosi supporting.

The Kaduna Division will be presided over by Hon. Justice O. A. Otisi, while Hon. Justice B. A. Georgewill will oversee the Ibadan Division. Other prominent Presiding Justices include Hon. Justice J. O. K. Oyewole (Enugu), Hon. Justice B. G. Sanga (Benin), Hon. Justice M. O. Bolaji-Yusuf (Jos), Hon. Justice O. E. Williams-Dawodu (Port Harcourt), and Hon. Justice H. A. Barka (Abuja).

In addition, Hon. Justice U. Onyemenam will serve as Presiding Justice at the newly organized sessions linked to Abuja, while Hon. Justice R. M. Abdullahi, Hon. Justice A. A. Wambai, Hon. Justice M. L. Shuaibu, and Hon. Justice F. O. Oho will preside over the Ilorin, Owerri, Sokoto, and Yola Divisions respectively.

At the South-West, Hon. Justice I. O. Akeju has been posted as Presiding Justice of the Ekiti Division, while Hon. Justice O. F. Omoleye heads the Akure Division.

Notably, appeals originating from the Awka Division will be heard in either Enugu or Asaba Divisions, while appeals from the Gombe Division will be handled by the Maiduguri Division. The Hon. Presiding Justices (PJs) of these divisions are tasked with working out the modalities for these arrangements.

The Honourable President reiterated that this posting exercise does not affect any already constituted special panels, which will proceed as scheduled:
