Chief Justice Of Nigeria Among VIPs Affected As Police Withdraw Security Personnel Nationwide

The Nigeria Police Force’s Mobile Force, 50 Squadron in Kubwa, Abuja, has issued urgent instructions for all officers assigned to provide security for high-profile individuals, including the Chief Judge of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, to report back to base by 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 27, 2025.

The directive, issued under reference AB: 4087/FCT/50PMF/VOL.10/ by the Squadron Commander, applies to officers assigned to protect 20 Very Important Persons (VIPs), among them former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, and the Olu of Warri, His Royal Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III.

The memo, dated November 26, 2025, lists all affected VIPs, including the Chief Judge of Nigeria (the correct way to address the Chief Justice Of Nigeria ‘CJN’), other senior government officials, and prominent traditional and political figures. CSP Suleiman Abdullahi, Administrative Officer of 50PMF Kubwa, signed the announcement, emphasizing immediate compliance.

The withdrawal of VIP security personnel follows a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a security meeting on Sunday in Abuja. The meeting, which included the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke; Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; and Director-General of the Department of State Services, Tosin Adeola Ajayi, ordered the redeployment of officers to focus on core policing responsibilities, particularly in underserved and vulnerable communities.

Under the new arrangement, VIPs seeking protection will now rely on personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The policy is part of a broader effort to strengthen policing nationwide, improve response times, and enhance security in areas with limited law enforcement presence.

This redeployment marks a significant adjustment in Nigeria’s security architecture, aiming to ensure that police resources are concentrated on community protection rather than individual VIP assignments.

Earlier adjustments following the presidential order saw similar directives issued to officers across other formations, including SPU Base 16 in Lagos, which instructed personnel attached to VIPs to return to base and attend lecture parades for accountability and reintegration into standard policing duties.
