Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) has announced the opening of its first office in Lagos, Nigeria. Disclosing this in a statement on Wednesday, the company said the new office was part of its support for the growing number of customers and partners in Nigeria. AWS is a subsidiary of Amazon, an American e-commerce company, that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs to individuals, companies, and governments, on a metered pay-as-you-go basis. For the second day in a row, activities at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos are crippled following a power blackout. Our correspondent reports that the court has been in darkness since Wednesday morning following the non-supply of electricity to the facility. Some cases slated for hearing Wednesday and Thursday, could not go on as the atmosphere was inconducive for some judges. The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Terhemba Tsoho has constituted a special task force of Judges to swiftly hear and determine all Pre-election cases before it. An Ikeja Special Offences Court on Friday fixed 6th December for the trial of the former Attorney-General of Lagos State, Olasupo Shasore, charged with corrupt offers to public officers. Mr Shasore, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, served as the Attorney-General of Lagos State and the Commissioner for Justice during the tenure of Babatunde Fashola as the governor. President Muhammadu Buhari has conferred Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS) on 44 prominent Nigerians. NEAPS was set up to recognise excellence in leadership, service, or humanitarianism. The supreme court has affirmed the nomination of Sherrif Oborevwori as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta state. Delivering judgment on Friday, a five-member panel of the apex court, led by Amina Augie, upheld the decision of the Abuja court of appeal. Nigeria’s local currency unit is set to weaken further next year as its current exchange rate to the dollar is well above fair value, the Bank of America (BofA) has said.
