Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has overruled the no-case submission filed by Kanu’s lawyers. This application followed the Federal Government’s presentation of witnesses, evidence, and closing of its case against the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook urged the Supreme Court Thursday to reject President Trump’s effort to fire her, arguing it would harm central bank independence and disrupt financial markets. “Granting the President’s request for immediate relief to alter the status quo would sound the death knell for the central-bank independence that has helped make the United States’ economy the strongest in the world,” Cook’s lawyers argued in a new filing. Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced to five years in jail after being found guilty of criminal conspiracy in a case related to millions of euros of illicit funds from the late Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi. The Federal Government has set October 6, 2025, as the commencement date for mandatory nationwide verification of academic credentials, as part of efforts to curb certificate racketeering and restore integrity to Nigeria’s education system. The West African states of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger have announced their withdrawal from the International Criminal Court, ICC, stating that they no longer recognise its jurisdiction. Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Yemi Cardoso, says 14 Nigerian banks have fully met the new capital requirement in the ongoing recapitalisation exercise.
