Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, has dragged the Federal Government to court to seek release from the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The PUNCH has learnt. The Edo State Government has warned residents who still engage in Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the state to desist, saying perpetrators risk four-year jail term. The Commissioner for Social Development and Gender Issues, Maria Omozele Edeko, gave the warning over the weekend in Benin, during the International Day for Zero Tolerance Against Female Genital Mutilation. She said Section 11 of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law prohibited FGM and prescribed a four-year jail term for perpetrators. Indications emerged weekend of  crisis brewing between the federal government and labour union over who has the responsibility to collect stamp duties charge. The Finance Act which was recently signed by President Muhammadu Buhari, had given the responsibility of collecting stamp duties charges to the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, instead of the Nigeria Postal Service, NIPOST, that before now performed the function. The National Industrial Court in Abuja has described as barbaric and crude deployment of force the manner the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) evicted one of its senior officials, Daniel Makolo, from his official quarters. Justice Oyejoju Oyebiola Oyewumi, in a judgment, ordered the NIS to pay Makolo N10,100,000 as damages for its unlawful and barbaric conduct and the cost of prosecuting the suit. The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Hon (Dr) Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad has said the Judiciary is open to initiatives aimed at improving and strengthening the capacity of judicial officers in the handling of cases on emerging crime trend in the country. The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has advised judges to slam “severe costs” on lawyers who delay the course of justice in court. An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday ordered the remand of two men, Yusuf Adesola, 19, and Folarin Samsudeen, 19, for the alleged murder of a victim they gang-raped. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendants, who reside in the Lalupon area of Ibadan, were charged with conspiracy and murder. The  Prosecutor, Insp.
