The Special Fraud Unit, SFU, of the Nigeria Police has arraigned two church workers of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministry (a.k.a. Grace Nation International or Liberation City) over an alleged thirteen million naira fraud. The two church workers, Ms Success Ibilibor Udoka and Ms Prosper Chinonso Iheukwumere, were arraigned before Justice Hakeem Oshodi of a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja for stealing church funds. Two police officers, James Ejeh and Simeon Abraham, have been sentenced to death over their alleged involvement in armed robbery. Justice Peter Kekemeke of the FCT High Court gave the verdict on Thursday, NAN reports. The dismissed police officers were initially arraigned on October 20, 2017, by the FCT Commissioner of Police on two counts of conspiracy and armed robbery. Delivering judgment, Kekemeke said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubts by calling four witnesses. Mallam Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, on Wednesday said the company has filed liquidated damages against suppliers of methanol-laden fuel. He also said that NNPC has taken measures to ensure that premium motor spirit (PMS) meant for Nigeria is methanol- free. Kyari said this is why the company had turned back five cargoes coming from the same place the methanol-laden fuel that came into the country originated from. The first witness to testify in Yoruba actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka alias Baba Ijesha’s defence on Thursday said the actor and the minor he allegedly raped were both acting out a script. The witness also claimed that some videos were edited. Lawrence Ayeni, a graduate of Mechanical Engineering, who is also experienced in video production as well as CCTV installation and maintenance, was the witness. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the National Policy on the Government, Second Level Domain aimed at safeguarding official communications using government top-level domains. The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, disclosed this when he addressed State House correspondents on the outcome of the Council meeting, presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, on Wednesday in Abuja. At least five persons were hospitalized following a fire outbreak on Wednesday night which gutted the Lagos campus of Law School, located at Ozumba Mbadiwe Street, Victoria Island. According to eyewitnesses, the incident led to commotion among occupants who ran in different directions for dear lives. The Senate has passed the Chartered Institute of Forensic and Fraud Examiners of Nigeria Bill. The upper chamber also passed three other bills for concurrence. Sponsor of the bill, Yahaya Abdullahi, in his lead debate, recalled that the Chartered Institute of Forensic and Fraud Examiners of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill, 2022 (HB. 1220) was read for the first time on December 1. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confirmed that the embattled deputy commissioner of police, Abba Kyari, is now in its custody. The NDLEA in a Monday evening statement by its spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said Mr Kyari was handed over to the agency by the police. The agency had earlier declared Mr Kyari wanted for aiding and abetting drug pushing and running his own drug cartel. The Academic Staff Union of Universities has declared a “comprehensive and total” strike. The strike was declared at a press conference addressed by the President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, on Monday. He said the strike, which takes effect from Monday, February 14, 2022, would last for an initial period of four weeks. According to him, the union tried to avoid the strike but the Federal Government was unresponsive to the union’s demands. Kayode Fayemi, governor of Ekiti, says Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) approached the court on executive order 10 to prevent arbitrary removal of state funds. On May 22, 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari signed the order granting financial autonomy to the legislature and the judiciary in the 36 states of the federation. Days after signing the order, Buhari suspended its implementation following the reservations expressed by governors.
