This is to inform our esteemed customers and the general public that in line with our implementation plan for Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, the Commission has upgraded its registration software to accommodate the changes introduced by the new law on existing entities. The upgrade will also enable all customers to do all post registration filings electronically. Further to this, the Companies Registration Portal will not be available from the 28th December 2020 to 3rd January, 2021, to allow for seamless migration to the new platform. The Federal High Court in Asaba, Delta State, has declared the deduction of N50 as stamp duty on teller deposits or electronic transfer of funds illegal. The court, presided by Nnamdi Dimgba, gave the verdict in a case between a businessman, Rupert Irikefe, and the Central Bank of Nigeria, Zenith Bank, and the Attorney General of the Federation. The Nigerian Army has canceled the remaining activities in the ongoing Chief of Army Staff’s annual conference 2020 after a participant died in Abuja, on Tuesday. The victim, identified as Maj. Gen. John Irefin, the General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, reportedly died of complications from COVID-19. A FEDERAL High Court in Abuja has suspended further proceedings in the trial of former Chairman of defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina, until December 21, 2020. Justice Okon Abang announced the suspension on Thursday after Maina slumped from the chair on which he sat during proceedings. At the mention of the case, Maina, who had sat close to some of his relatives, moved to a chair close to the dock in front of the courtroom. Professional bodies have kicked against plans by the Federal Government to take over unclaimed dividends of public listed companies. They said the move would impact negatively on the capital market as it would discourage investment.
