A Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja has revoked the bail of agribusiness investment promoter Toyosi Ayodele, after the court found discrepancies in the medical report submitted by his legal team in an apparent effort to obstruct trial proceedings in his ongoing fraud case.
The presiding Judge, Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe gave the ruling on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, after the prosecution presented findings from an EFCC investigation that uncovered discrepancies in the medical excuse submitted by the defendant’s legal team.
The defendant, Toyosi Ayodele, alongside his companies Reaprite Global Ltd. and Agrorite Ltd., is standing trial on an 11-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The charges relate to alleged fraudulent agribusiness investments totaling ₦600 million and $50,000. He is accused of obtaining money under false pretenses and stealing from unsuspecting investors.
The court found that a medical report presented by Ayodele’s counsel, Mr. Chukwuemeka Maduagwu, on May 21, was fraudulent. The report had claimed that Ayodele was receiving treatment at Reddington Hospital in Lagos following a referral from University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, and required surgery.
However, during Tuesday’s hearing, EFCC counsel Deborah Ademu-Etteh revealed that an investigation launched into the claims found them to be false. There were no records of any such referral, admission, or scheduled surgery at any of the hospitals mentioned. The court was also reminded that the defendant had failed to appear for trial on multiple occasions, prompting the issuance of a bench warrant prior to this hearing.
Visibly displeased, , Justice Abike-Fadipe criticized both the defendant and his lawyer, Chukwuemeka Maduagwu for deliberately attempting to mislead the court and frustrate the course of justice. As a result, she revoked Ayodele’s bail and ordered that he remain in custody at a correctional facility until the trial resumes.
The judge adjourned the case until October 21, 2025, for the continuation of proceedings.
