Following the public advocacy statement published by BarristerNG on 20th, July 2025 regarding the ongoing challenges with the CAC’s new portal and the misapplication of AI under CAMA 2020, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced the postponement of its earlier plan to implement new service fees and penalties for document downloads on its upgraded Company Registration Portal (CRP).
The group in its statement signed by Olalekan I Oladapo Esq, urged the Commission to “act now—or risk losing the confidence of the very public it is meant to serve”.
In a public notice released by the Commission today, 21st July, 2025, the enforcement of the new fee regime originally scheduled to commence on 1st August 2025 will now take effect from 1st September 2025. The penalties include charges for downloading documents beyond a 7-day window.
The decision to postpone the implementation comes in response to growing user concerns and feedback about technical difficulties encountered on the upgraded portal. The Commission acknowledged ongoing transitional challenges, particularly in areas such as:
- Downloading of documents
- Payment processing
- Post-incorporation filings for business names
- Upload of certain required documents
“We are working tirelessly, alongside our technical partners and stakeholders, to stabilize the system without shutting down the entire portal,” the Commission stated. It emphasized that the temporary relief was part of its broader commitment to supporting businesses and ensuring a seamless user experience during the transition phase.
The CAC also reaffirmed its dedication to improving the efficiency of its services and urged users to remain patient and understanding as the technical upgrades continue.
