Professional bodies have kicked against plans by the Federal Government to take over unclaimed dividends of public listed companies. They said the move would impact negatively on the capital market as it would discourage investment. An Igbosere High Court in Lagos on Thursday awarded N1 million damages against Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) for disconnecting a consumer over unpaid bill by former occupant of the building. Justice Ibidun Harrison described as “unlawful” EKEDC’s refusal to connect the customer to electricity for unpaid bill consumed by a former occupant of the building. A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has delivered a landmark judgement that Nigerians who live in a residential estate cannot be compelled to be a member of the Community Development Association (CDA) popularly known as residents’ association of estate.This decision of the Court has put an end to any future arbitrariness of resident associations in Nigeria.
