Usman Baba, inspector-general of Police (IGP), has ordered all commissioners of police (CPs), tactical commanders and their supervising assistant inspectors-general of police (AIGs) to boost security around schools and colleges. Officials of Nigeria’s anti-graft agencies, EFCC and ICPC, say their morale and commitment to work have been affected by the controversial presidential pardon of Jolly Nyame, former governor of Taraba State, and Joshua Dariye, former governor of Plateau State. Both men had been convicted and jailed for stealing state funds. Nigerian govt directs railway corporation to hand over passengers’ identification to technology firm
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has directed the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to handover tickets and passengers’ identification to Secure ID, the company in charge of the E-Ticketing platform for Abuja-Kaduna rail service. According to Mr Amaechi, this will help in reducing incidents of crime and also curb security challenges on the route. An Ikeja High Court on Wednesday sentenced a 33-year-old motorcyclist, Michael Ahmed to life imprisonment for raping his passenger. The survivor was 12-year-old while the convict was 24-year-old at the time he committed the offences in 2013. Nigeria’s electoral umpire, INEC, has declared 42 per cent of new voters registration invalid just as it unveiled new Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) for distribution across the country. The commission, through its National Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, on Wednesday, said a total of 1,854,859 PVCs will be ready for collection by direct owners in the 36 states and FCT after the Easter holiday.
