The trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has been postponed indefinitely by a Federal High Court in Abuja on terrorism-related charges.
In anticipation of the outcome of the Federal Government’s appeal against the October 13 Court of Appeal ruling that absolved him of the terrorism charges, Justice Binta Nyako postponed the trial sine die.
The Federal Government’s appeal seeking a reversal of the Court of Appeal judgment is also pending before the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Mazi Kanu refused to appear before the Federal High Court for his trial.
When asked about Kanu’s nonappearance in court, the counsel to the Federal Government, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar argued that all entreaties made to persuade Kanu to have a change of heart were rebuffed.
