The Maiduguri High Court sentenced Aisha Wakil, more commonly known as Mama Boko Haram, to five years in prison for defrauding N71.4 million. Lawyer Wakil was convicted along with two others, including Tahiru Saidu Faura and Prince Lawal Shoyode.
The conviction was delivered by the Regional Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Tuesday 14 June 2022 at the Supreme Court in Maiduguri.
Presiding Judge Aisha Kumaliya of Borno State High Court, Maiduguri sentenced defendants to 5 years in prison without the possibility of a fine. While the defendants pleaded “not guilty” to the charges, the prosecution attorney, Mukhtar Ali Ahmed, during the trial presented four witnesses and presented a number of admitted documents.
In her sentence, Judge Kumaliya declared that the prosecution had proven its case against defendant and therefore convicted them.
