With nine months left in the tenure of this administration, the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has taken a major step toward the Association’s 2026 national elections by appointing members of the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA). The appointments received the formal approval of the NBA National Executive Council (NEC) during its quarterly meeting held in Benin City, Edo State on 20th November 2025.
The move aligns strictly with Section 10 of the NBA Constitution, which establishes the ECNBA as an independent body responsible for conducting elections into the National Offices of the Association as well as elections for NBA representatives to the General Council of the Bar.
In compliance with these provisions, President Osigwe presented the proposed committee members to NEC, which subsequently endorsed the appointments. The newly approved Electoral Committee is composed as follows:
- Aham Ejelam, SAN – Chairman
- Ibrahim Aliyu Nasarawa – Secretary
- Muahamad M. Nuhu – Member
- Uju Okafor – Member
- Ume Maduka – Member
The President described the selection as a reflection of the Association’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and professionalism in its electoral processes. By securing NEC’s approval well ahead of schedule, the Osigwe-led administration has signaled its intention to ensure a smooth, credible, and constitutionally compliant transition process.
The ECNBA is expected to commence preliminary preparations ahead of the 2026 NBA elections, including developing election guidelines, reviewing accreditation frameworks, and setting timelines for candidate nominations and campaign activities.
