The Office of the United States Secretary of War has released information about its recent meeting with the Nigerian team led by National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Sean Parnell, Public Affairs Assistant and Advisor to the Secretary of War, shared the update on War.gov.
He explained that US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, met Ribadu and other top Nigerian officials after US President Donald Trump warned that he might launch attacks on jihadist groups killing Christians in Nigeria.
The Nigerian delegation included:
- Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu
- Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun
- Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi
- Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede
Trump had earlier listed Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) because of claims that Christians were being targeted and killed.
Parnell said the November 20 meeting focused on how both countries could work together to stop the killings of Christians and fight jihadist groups in West Africa.
According to him, Hegseth stressed that Nigeria must show real commitment and take urgent, long-term steps to end the violence.
He added that the US Department of War is ready to cooperate closely with Nigeria to weaken terrorist groups that also pose a threat to the United States.
