Honorable Justice of the Supreme Court, Helen Moronkeji Ogunwumiju, has congratulated a Life Bencher and first female General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mrs. Hairat Ade-Balogun on the occasion of her 80th birthday.

Hairat Balogun is the Founder and Senior Partner at Libra Law. She has a distinguished legal career spanning 57 years in law practice. She was called to the English Bar at Lincoln’s Inn in 1963, appointed the first female Attorney General of Lagos State, the first female General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association; and first female Chairman of the Body of Benchers, Nigeria.
Hairat Balogun is a Life Bencher of the Body of Benchers, a former National Executive Member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), an Assessor, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Disciplinary Tribunal and Investigating Panel and was a Member of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission.
She was a Member of the Governing Council of Lagos State University, and she has been a Member of the Council of the Section on General Practice of the International Bar Association (IBA). She also served as an Observer at the International Court of Justice, the Hague Netherlands (Lockerbie trial).
She has an impressive ability to adapt to societal and legal changes both nationally and internationally and over the years her work has been recognized internationally.
A holder of the Officer of the Order of the Niger, OON (a national honor), Hairat Balogun is also a member and life member of various associations and she has authored two books.
