Imo State is on the verge of appointing a new Chief Judge, as Governor Hope Uzodimma has directed the newly formed Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to begin the selection process. At a recent meeting in the New Exco Chambers of the Government House, Owerri, the Governor reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring effective justice delivery in the State.
Uzodimma explained that the removal of the former Chief Judge by the Nigeria Judicial Council (NJC) was based on certain circumstances and underscored the vital role of the JSC in overseeing the conduct of Judges. He emphasized the importance of purging the judiciary of any unethical practices, warning against age falsification, which he said tarnishes the state’s reputation and the integrity of the justice system.
He called on the Commission to exhibit integrity, courage, and high ethical standards, ensuring that only qualified and trustworthy Judges are considered for positions of responsibility. “Fasten your seat belts and weather the storm, no matter whose ox is gored,” Uzodimma charged the members.
The Governor also inaugurated key appointees for the Boards of Imo State University (IMSU), the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC), and the Imo State Road Maintenance Agency (IROMA). He emphasized that these appointments are part of his administration’s effort to deliver more democracy dividends to the people of Imo.
Addressing the five Commissioners-designate—Prof. Boniface G. Nworgu, Chief Kenneth Okafor, Barr. Enyinnaya Onuegbu, Dr. Anthony Mgbeahuruike, and Dr. Elias Emedom—Uzodimma encouraged them to maintain the highest ethical standards as they work to enhance the capacity of his administration.
