Ezinwa Okorafor from Nigeria and Laura Nyirinkindi from Uganda will serve as the President and Vice President of International Federation of Female Lawyers (FIDA) 2024 – 2027.
Charisse Brown from Bahamas and Nigeria’s Inimefien Aguma will serve as Secretary and Treasurer of the International body.
Six Directors one of whom is Olufunmi Oluyede of Nigerian descent will be in the International executive Committee while nine regional Vice Presidents will be part of the team. Two of the Vice Presidents Afua Eyeson Laoye from Ghana and Nomaswazi Shabanga-Mndawe from South Africa are from Africa.
In compliance with the FIDA Constitution, there was an Elections Committee headed by Past FIDA World Presidents Jethlyn Burrows (Bahamas) and Sheelah Anish (India) set up to consider all nominations.
The World Presidency is zoned every 3-4 years, this time, it came to Africa where Ezinwa Okoroafor was elected. Stella Ugboma was the last African President.
The election took place at the 38th International Convention of Women Lawyers held in Cali, Colombia.
The convention included the posthumous acknowledgments of HRH Alaiyeluwa Oba Ajibola Olaleye Oluyede, Ise Oluwa II, the ALAYEDE of Ayede Ogbese for his sterling contributions to FIDA International.
