The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwa-Olu, has made Infectious Diseases Regulations to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a new virus with no vaccine currently. Nigeria currently has over 80 persons who are positive of the virus with 3 discharged and 1 dead.
Lawyers have been debating on the legality or otherwise of the many orders have been given by the President and Governors of various states restricting movements and gatherings of people.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State government made the Infectious Disease Regulations pursuant to the Public Health Law Of Lagos and the provisions of sections 2, 3, 4 and 8 of the Quarantine Act.
By the Regulations, the governor has the power to restrict movement, events, gatherings, closure of public, educational and vocational institutions.
Non compliance with the Regulations shall attract sanction.
