A Supreme Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, has ordered the detention of the remains of five young men accused of torturing a woman in a viral video at the Federal Correctional Institute in Mandala, Ilorin until August 1, 2022.
Five defendants, Jimoh Abdulfatai, Olamide Babatunde, Afeez Ayomide, Agboola Abdulsamad and Yakubu Mustapha were convicted on five counts.
They allegedly assaulted and tortured a young woman, Ayomide Afolayan, from Songa Village, Shao, Moro Local Government Area, Kwara State, on Monday, June 20, 2022.
prosecution, five defendants were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, criminal intimidation, and indecent assault contrary to sections 97, 114, 210 and 391 of the Penal Code and punished under similar sections of the law.
They are also believed to have injured Ayomide Afolayan, a student at Bartholomeu College of Health Sciences, Shao.
Defendant was also charged with emotional, verbal and psychological abuse against him, in violation of Sections 3 and 13 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2020 of the state of Kwara.
Five defendants pleaded not guilty in court. The police first information report said “Jimoh Abdulfatai at 12 Shao Street, who is Ayomide’s boyfriend, invited her to his home on Monday and accused her of participating in a ‘ met’ with another man, which she vehemently denied.
” As her boyfriend continued to question her in front of four of her other friends, she pleaded that she was innocent of the accusation of fraud. The lie was made to her, but the plea fell on deaf ears and her boyfriend Jimoh asked his other friends to hold his wrist while his arms and legs were held by the other friends. and tied tight. However, presiding judge Muhammed Ibrahim ordered the five defendants to be sent to the Federal Correctional Services Center until a day after the case was adjourned.
The matter has been adjourned to August 1, 2022 for a hearing.
