President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday declared a nationwide security emergency, unveiling sweeping measures aimed at tackling escalating attacks across several states and strengthening Nigeria’s overstretched security apparatus.

In a statement, the President ordered an unprecedented recruitment drive across the armed forces and security agencies, authorising the Nigeria Police Force to immediately add 20,000 new officers, bringing total new intakes under his administration to 50,000.

A 24-year-old convict, Usama Abdullahi, has lamented that his three girlfriends, who he gave stolen packs of noodles, did not visit him in prison.

Usama, who worked at a car wash was sentenced to community service following the review of a 2-year jail term slammed on him for theft by a court in Shelleng Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has held that the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu used different tactics to stall his own trial.

The judge said this on Thursday while reading his judgement in the terrorism trial brought against Kanu. Justice Omotosho was then making pronouncements on the preliminary objections filed by Kanu. The judge had earlier said he would rule on the objections while giving the final judgement on the matter.
