A Federal High Court, Ado Ekiti Division, on Thursday struck out a suit filed by an All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in the January 27 primary in Ekiti State, Kayode Ojo, challenging the emergence of the governor-elect, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, as the party candidate. Nigeria’s foremost geographer, Prof Akinlawon Ladipo Mabogunje is dead. Prof Mabogunje reportedly died on Thursday August 4, 2022. He was 90 years old. His death was confirmed by Ms Funke Aboyade SAN, daughter of Mabogunje’s bossom friend, the late Prof Ojetunji Aboyade, a former Vice Chancellor, University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife. Akwa Ibom State High Court, sitting in Uyo, the state capital, has sentenced a 21-year-old Uduak Akpan to death by hanging for the murder of Akwa Ibom job seeker, Iniubong Umoren. The court also found the accused guilty of rape and accordingly sentenced him to life imprisonment for having carnal knowledge of the deceased whom he lured to his father’s house in Uruan local government in April 2021 under the pretext of offering her a job. Nigeria’s Minister of the Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, has opposed the government’s plan to impose an additional five per cent excise duty on telecommunications services in Nigeria. He argued that the ministry, which oversees the industry, was not consulted, and that the timing of such tax at a time Nigerians face hardship is antithetical to the growth of the industry. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday declared Instagram celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha, better known as Mompha, wanted. The anti-graft agency, in a tweet, urged members of the public with information on his whereabouts to speak up. Among other offences, the EFCC said Mompha is wanted for laundering funds obtained through unlawful activities, false asset declaration and retention of alleged proceeds of crime. The suspected murderer of Alika Ogorchukwu, a 39-year-old Nigerian, has been arrested by Italian police, the Nigerian government said. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) made this known in a press release on Tuesday. She noted the Italian police were working and cooperating with the Nigerian mission in Italy to ensure justice is done.
