The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has said that 64.42 million liters of fuel were evacuated on a daily basis between January 28 and February 3. This disclosure is contained in a Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) weekly and daily dispatch report posted on its official Twitter account on Sunday, February 5. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has struck a $741 million deal with Daewoo Engineering and Construction Company to rehabilitate an oil refinery in Kaduna State. According to Bloomberg, NNPCL signed the maintenance service contract with the South Korean engineering firm at a ceremony held on Thursday. In a statement issued by the company, it read, “Under the terms of the agreement, Daewoo will restore production at the inoperative 110,000 barrels-a-day facility to at least 60 per cent of its capacity by the end of 2024.
Paul Oyewole, an Ondo-based cleric, has been dragged before a Magistrates Court, sitting in Ondo town, for allegedly faking his obituary to avoid payment of debt. Mr Oyewole was arraigned on Thursday before Magistrate Mosunmola Ikujuni, after he allegedly published and posted his own death on social media to avoid payment of N3 million owed his church member. The Osun Governorship Election Tribunal has sacked Senator Ademola Adeleke as Governor. In a majority judgment, the tribunal chaired by Justice Tertse Kume cancelled election in 744 polling units due to over-voting. Former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola challenged the July 16th 2022 governorship by joining All Progressives Congress(APC) to file a petition against the victory of Adeleke. He alleged over-voting in 749 polling units and certificate forgery by candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). The Election Petitions Tribunal hearing the All Progressives Congress’ Adegboyega Oyetola’s petition against the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Ademola Adeleke on Friday annulled the result of the July 16 Osun governorship poll. Justice Tetsea Kume, while delivering a majority decision, declared that the Independent National Electoral Commission did not comply substantially with the constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act. The United States has imposed visa restrictions on some Nigerians accused of undermining democracy, noting that this was part of the action to advance democracy and tackle corruption in Nigeria. The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, said that the sanctioned individuals, whose names he did not reveal, would be ineligible for the US visa. Nigeria has begun an attempt to overturn the $11 billion debt awarded in favour of Process and Industrial Developments (P&ID). In 2019, a British court gave P&ID the go-ahead to seize Nigerian assets worth $9 billion over a 2010 contract. The company claimed it entered into an agreement with Nigeria to build a gas processing plant in Calabar, Cross River state; but that the deal collapsed because the Nigerian government did not fulfil its end of the bargain. The Court of Appeal in Makurdi, Benue, has annulled the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that produced Hyacinth Alia as the gubernatorial flag bearer of the party. The appeal was brought before the court by a gubernatorial aspirant, Terhemba Shija, who said that the APC’s refusal to hold a valid election in the LGAs was a calculated attempt to scheme him out of the contest.
