A Federal High Court Abuja, on Tuesday, dismissed the suit filed by Sen. Adamu Bulkachuwa, seeking to stop the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission from investigating him over the comment he made during the valedictory session of the 9th National Assembly. Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a judgment, held that the suit lacked merit and ought to be dismissed. Justice Ekwo said that Bulkachuwa, being a lawmaker, ought to understand the implication of the statement that he made on the floor of the Senate. A Federal High Court on Friday, 15th September, 2022, in a landmark judgement, awarded the sum of 100 billion naira in suit No FHC/ABJ/CS/1419/2022, against the Defendants. Hon. The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has requested all members to update their information on the recently launched NBA portal to maintain accurate records and enhance service delivery. In a notice to lawyers, NBA General Secretary Adesina Adegbite announced the deployment of an improved NBA portal with new features to facilitate better engagement between members and the Secretariat. The number of Justices of the Court of Appeal will increase to nine on September 20, when the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola administers the oath of office on them. However, the number of Supreme Court Justices will reduce by one to 11 with the retirement of Justice Amina Augie on September 21. The Constitution provides for a total of 21 Supreme Court Justices. Visit visa to the United Kingdom for less than six months will now cost £115 (about N111,878.28 ) as opposed to £15 (14,592.70) effective October 4, the UK Home Office has announced. This translates to about 667 per cent increment, Saturday PUNCH can confirm. Student visa fee has also been increased from £127 (N123,537.58) to £490 (N476,677.59); representing a 286 per cent increment. Justice Akintayo Aluko of a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, yesterday, sentenced a 38-year-old driver, Segun Odeyemi, to 10 years imprisonment for trafficking in 3,842 Kilogrammes of Cannabis sativa, a banned substance similar to cocaine and heroin.d. Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, yesterday asked commissioners of police in the 36 states of the federation and Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to immediately commence dismantling of all non-security checkpoints within their areas of responsibilities, and arrest violators for prompt prosecution. The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal has overturned the decision of the National and State Houses of Assembly Election Tribunal in Asaba, which declared Ndudi Elumelu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency election in Delta State.
