Singapore plans to punish online scammers with at least six strokes with a cane, a minister told lawmakers on Tuesday, as the city-state doubles down on syndicates following record-high scam losses. Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy lost more than $2.8 billion through scams from 2020 up to the first half of 2025, Sim Ann, Singapore’s senior minister of state for home affairs, told parliament. The Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima, has ordered the release of 79 inmates from the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Agodi, Ibadan. Those freed include individuals who had been awaiting trial for bailable and non-capital offences for over four months, as well as some awaiting trial for capital offences who had spent more than two years in custody. The Nigeria Immigration Service has announced plans to introduce a Single Travel Emergency Passport, a new biometric travel document designed to help Nigerians abroad whose passports are expired, lost, or stolen return home securely and verifiably. The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted an order for the interim forfeiture of a popular entertainer, Pretty Mike’s Victoria Island property, alleged to have been used for drug dealing and storage. Justice Musa Kakaki made the order on Tuesday following an ex parte motion filed and argued by the counsel for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mr. Buhari Abdulahi.
