Following the death of a former Head of the Interim Government, Chief Ernest Adegunle Oladeinde Shonekan, President Muhammadu Buhari, has directed that the national flag be flown at half-mast. The President gave the order in a statement on Tuesday night by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha. A Benin Chief Magistrate’s Court has adjourned the case between Ikpoba Slope community and Abattoir owner in the community, Mrs Sarah Uwaifor, over alleged environmental pollution to February 16, for continuation of hearing following absence of defendant principal lawyer. The United States has warned travellers to Nigeria especially American citizens to reconsider their trip as kidnappers now targeted citizens with dual nationalities. The US State Department’s Nigeria Travel Advisory dated January 4, 2022, noted that American citizens with perceived wealth were also targets for kidnappers. The advisory also listed some states US citizens should not travel to or stay vigilant when visiting. THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Monday, in continuation of the review of its operational activities for 2021, disclosed that it recovered the aggregate sum of N152, 088,698,751, $386,220,202, £1,182,519 and €156,246 in 2021. A release made available to the Nigerian Tribune by the Head, Media and Publicity of the Commission, Wilson Uwujaren, informed that EFCC also recovered SAR1, 723,310, R1, 900 and $1,400 between January and December, 2021. David Bennett, a 57-year-old patient with terminal heart disease, has undergone a successful transplant of a genetically-modified pig’s heart — the first-operation-of-its-kind. According to a statement issued on Monday by the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), the historic surgery was conducted on Friday. Chief Ernest Shonekan who headed the Interim National Government that succeeded the junta of General Ibrahim Babangida, has died. Shonekan died in Lagos at the age of 85. He was the interim head of the Nigerian Government between August 26 and November 17 1993 when he was ousted in a coup led by late General Sani Abacha.
