The President of Niger Republic, Mohamed Bazoum, has thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the Kano-Katsina-Maradi railway. He said the project will integrate the economies of Nigeria and Niger. A Nigerian man has been sentenced to federal prison for federal fraud violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston of the Eastern District of Texas. Sobanke Idris Sunday Adereti, 24, pleaded guilty on Oct. 25, 2021, to passport fraud and attempted bank fraud, and was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Jeremy D. Kernodle. According to court documents, in March 2021, Adereti presented a false passport and a falsely procured certified check when trying to open a bank account in Flower Mound, Texas. The World Bank Group on Wednesday announced the suspension of SoftTech IT Solutions and Services Ltd. (SoftTech) for 50 months over corrupt allegations in the National Social Safety Nets Project. The Washington-based institution also announced a 60-month debarment of Isah Kantigi, the company’s managing director. According to the bank, the debarment make both Nigeria-born Mr Kantigi and SoftTech, an information technology solutions company based in Nigeria, ineligible to participate in projects and operations financed by the bank. A retired Lagos High Court judge, Justice Samuel Babajide Adebowale Candide-Johnson has filed a suit before a National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) in Lagos, demanding his pension, gratuity, and other entitlements from Lagos State government, a year after his retirement. Joined as defendants in the suit are the governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Attorney General, Moyosore Onigbanjo SAN, Lagos State Judicial Service Commission, and the National Judicial Council (NJC). Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has discharged and acquitted a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr Andrew Yakubu. Yakubu was arraigned before Justice Ahmed Mohammed on March 16, 2017, on a six-count charge of fraud having admitted to owning over $9.8 million in cash found in a house that also belongs to him in Kaduna state. The Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, has asked Nigerians to contribute to the cost of treating those affected in Monday’s train attack. At least nine people were killed while many sustained injuries when bandits attacked a train heading for Kaduna from Abuja. Amaechi, who had visited the scene of the attack on Tuesday, said it would have been foiled if the procurement of the N3 billion high capacity rail track cameras and sensors was not blocked. The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has expressed sadness over the death of one of its members, Dr Chinelo Megafu Nwando, a member of the association, who died after sustaining gunshot injuries during the terrorists attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train on Monday. There was a sharp disagreement yesterday between the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN and various non- governmental organisations over moves by the Senate to amend the Company and Allied Matters Act 2020. Both CAN and the stakeholders clashed with certain provisions of the bill, just as the umbrella body of Christians in Nigeria insisted that the amendments being sought in the CAMA was repressive and would infringe on the fundamental human rights of the groups’ promoters.
