The Nigerian government may spend nearly 100 per cent of its revenue on debt servicing by 2026, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned. The Bretton Wood institution raised concerns over Nigeria’s fiscal conditions, adding the nation spends 89 per cent of its revenue on debt. The IMF’s Resident Representative for Nigeria, Ari Aisen, made this known on Monday in Abuja while presenting the fund’s latest Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Economic Outlook report. IMF also warned that with fuel subsidy payments averaging N500 billion monthly, total expenditure on subsidy could hit a record N6 trillion by the end of the year.…
A commercial motorcycle riders union has dragged the Lagos State government before the Federal High Court in Lagos. The Trustees of Motorcycle Transport Union of Nigeria (MTUN) and others are praying for a declaration that the ban on okada is illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional. The Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, secured the conviction and sentencing of one Li Lei Lei, a Chinese national, to 24 months imprisonment for mutilating the Nigerian currency. He was convicted by Justice I. Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos. A new Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) scheme tagged, “C of O Redefined”, commences in Oyo State on Wednesday, bringing an end to the previous scheme launched in 2020 named “C of O redefined”. The new scheme, launched by State Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr Olayiwola Olusegun, at State Secretariat, Ibadan, prescribes various fees for residential, industrial land-owners, residential, commercial, and agricultural landowners. The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal filed by Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi seeking to stop his probe over an alleged N96 billion fraud while he was governor of Rivers State.
