About 1,067 candidates were unsuccessful in the 2025 Bar Final Examination, based on results released on Monday by the Council of Legal Education.

In a statement issued by the Council’s Secretary and Director of Administration, it was disclosed that a total of 7,602 candidates participated in the examinations conducted in December 2025.

A breakdown of the results shows that 212 candidates achieved first class honours, while 1,216 earned second class upper division. Additionally, 2,961 candidates obtained second class lower, 1,622 secured a pass, and 314 were awarded conditional passes.

A total of 210 candidates were absent, while the council put the overall pass rate at 79.1 percent, representing a decline from the previous year.

The CLE congratulated the successful candidates, describing their performance as a product of hard work and dedication.

“Information regarding the screening process and the schedule for the Call to the Bar ceremony will be communicated to candidates via their individual portals on the Nigerian Law School website,” the statement reads.

However, the 2025 pass rate marks a drop compared to the November 2024 bar finals, where about 84 per cent of the 7,134 candidates who sat for the examination passed.

In 2024, 260 candidates made first class, 1,193 had second class upper, 2,638 earned second class lower, 1,595 passed, 327 had conditional passes, while 940 failed and 181 were absent.
