The President and the Commander-In-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR today Monday 15th November 2019 declared open 2021 all Nigeria Judges’ Conference organized by the National Judicial Institute in fulfillment of its mandate of continuing Judicial education for Judicial officers.
The conference provides a platform for Judges to strategize on the means of adopting global best practices to meet critical challenges in the dispensation of Justice.
The event was held at Andrews Otutu Obaseki Auditorium, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and the theme of the conference centers on Promoting Judicial Excellence in the Administration of Justice.
In his address, the Administrator of the Institute, Hon. Justice Salisu Abdullahi highlighted the institute strides to the administration of Justice in partnership with local and international collaborations to better position the judges with adequate knowledge to fulfill their constitutional mandates.
Also, the Chief Justice of Nigeria who doubles as the Chairman Board of Governors of the Institute, Hon. Dr. Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad remarked that the need for an upright Judiciary is indispensable and expressed the Judiciary’s resolve to build a new Nigeria entrenched in strict adherence to the Rule of Law, Social justice, and accountable leadership.
Justice Tanko also frowned at the slow pace of the implementation of autonomy for state judiciary, urged the state governors to do the needful for the sustenance of democracy.
Declaring the conference open, President Muhammad Buhari who was represented by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo urged the Judges to use the conference to deliberate on the solutions to the bottlenecks affecting the Justice delivery system.
His Excellency further maintained that the Buhari-led administration is committed to strengthening democracy and assured continued cooperation with the Judiciary for the overall interest of our dear nation.
The conference witnessed many judicial titans which Included Hon. Justices of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Judges of Federal High Court, State High Courts, National Industrial Court, and Sharia Court (Serving and Retired).
Others are the representatives of the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Hon. Minister for Federal Capital Territory.
The Hon. President of the National Industrial Court, Hon. Justice Benedict Kanyip, PhD, FNIALS led the Judges of the Court to the conference; among were Hon. Justice M. N. Esowe, Hon. Justice K. I. Kola-Olalere FCIArb, Hon. Justice O. A. Obaseki-Osaghae, FCIArb, and other eminent jurists who connected through the virtual link.
