With nine months left in the tenure of this administration, the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has taken a major step toward the Association’s 2026 national elections by appointing members of the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA). The appointments received the formal approval of the NBA National Executive Council (NEC) during its quarterly meeting held in Benin City, Edo State on 20th November 2025.

“I had discovered since my appointment as a High Court judge that most of the politicians in Nigeria and, indeed, in other developing countries only pay lip-service to the independence of the judiciary…. It pays in the end for a judge, even at the risk of being a snob or of haughtiness, to be somewhat aloof, not only from members of the Executive, but also from political powerbrokers.”

A 24-year-old convict, Usama Abdullahi, has lamented that his three girlfriends, who he gave stolen packs of noodles, did not visit him in prison.

Usama, who worked at a car wash was sentenced to community service following the review of a 2-year jail term slammed on him for theft by a court in Shelleng Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

His Majesty the King has approved the appointment of the Right Hon Lord Doherty as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. The King made the appointment on the advice of the Prime Minister and Lord Chancellor, following the recommendation of an independent selection commission. Lord Doherty has sat as a judge of the Inner Court of Session in Edinburgh since 2020.
